Holiday movies can uplift and inspire us. We often pull favorite quotes from these movies and think about them later.

ELF is a particular favorite family movie full of one-liners

that can hold the secret to uplifting spirits and inspiring this holiday season

There is a lot we can learn from Buddy the Elf about being happy and increasing our sense of well-being.

Let’s take a look at a few quotes from the movie and discover how we can keep more present and mindful this Christmas.

1. “The best way to spread Christmas cheer is singing loud for all to hear…”

Singing is a great way to spread holiday cheer.

Singing also boosts our mood and keeps us healthy! According to a German research study, singing enhances immunity by increasing antibodies that fight illness.

2. “I just like to smile, smiling’s my favorite.”

Facial expressions can affect our mood.

Smiling stimulates a response in areas of the brain involving cognition and emotional processing. There is also a link between smiling how it connects to heart rate, blood pressure, and other stress level indicators.

Smiling can easily become our favorite thing!

3. “I thought maybe we could make ginger bread houses, and eat cookie dough, and go ice skating, and maybe even hold hands.”

Relationships are such an important part of our well-being and happiness. Focus on creating positive ones.

A great way to enhance our mood and life satisfaction is to look for ways to build relationships with others, and find ways to spend time with the people we love.

4. “Oh, I forgot to give you a hug!”

A study was conducted where participants were asked to hug their partner for 20 seconds; researchers found that levels of Oxytocin, a bonding hormone that triggers a caring response, increased in the hugging participants. Remember to get and give hugs, daily!

5. “You have such a pretty face, you should be on a Christmas card!”

Kindnesses done for someone else produce a momentary increase in happiness.

This is the season all about giving and doing for others.

Instead of getting caught up in the hustle and bustle of the holiday season, make an effort to notice how your mood increases when you make someone else happy.

Practicing Random Acts of Kindness is the simplest gift you can give with the biggest return to the giver.

We wouldn’t recommend the Elf diet however, ….simply too much sugar!!
